Grace Yocum
1898-1999
Grace Raymond Yocum, formerly of Flint Hill, died on March 13 at Warrenton Overlook Health and Rehabilitation.
She had almost reached three centuries, dying at the age of 101.
She is survived by several nephews. Nicholas Raymond. Allen Raymond and Robert Raymond and a niece, Carol Birden. scattered across the United States. Her cousin, Lois Manookian, is a resident of Washington, Va.
Mrs. Yocum was born and raised in Massachusetts, where her father was a Massachusetts Supreme Court Justice.
She attended Mt. Holyoke College, then graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in languages. She was fluent in both French and Spanish.
In 1936 she moved to England and then France with her first husband, Lvn Oak, who worked for Phillips Petroleum. They had previously lived in Tulsa. Okla. Lvn Oak died in Paris just as the German troops were about to enter that city, in the early days of World War II. Grace was able to reach Marseilles, where she caught the last ship leaving France for the United States.
