Mrs. Berta responded that the 12 hours would be her part of the business, making dolls in the house, and that Mr. Berta would only cut wood in the morning. She also said that the neighbor was hearing the noise because her husband was working in an open carport.
Mrs. Matthews questioned why the garage and workshop couldn’t be behind the house. Mr. Berta explained that there would be no access in that location. Mr. Zindel thought that Mr. Berta could add another building on the property, separate from the house.
The issue was whether the Berta’s could show that there was a need for the variance. According to Mr. McCarthy, one has to show in these instances that strict application of zoning ordinances would cause a hardship rather than an inconvenience.
The board denied the Berta’s request, finding that there was no hardship.
One other item was discussed before the board adjourned. Mr. McCarthy announced that no replacement had yet been made for recently deceased member Sid Gottlieb, and that Judge Shore Robertson would make an appointment soon.
