Sharp Rock Vineyards
Sharp Rock Vineyards was awarded a Bronze medal for its 1998 Sauvignon Blanc in the 18th annual Virginia Wine Competition sponsored by the Vinifera Wine Growers Association.
Sharp Rock Vineyards, located in Rappahannock County on Route 707, off Route 231, near Old Rag Mountain, opened its winery in September 1998, and the 1998 Sauvignon Blanc, released in May 1999, was its first vintage for that variety.
The Vinifera Wine Growers competition is the oldest in Virginia, and medals will be awarded during a ceremony on Aug. 21 at the Virginia Wine Festival in The Plains starting at 1 p.m.
Sharp Rock Vineyards also produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, and its tasting room is open to the public on Saturdays from 12 to 5 p.m. and the first Sunday of each month from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, directions, etc. call owners, David and Marilyn Armor at 987-9700.
Book day slated
Student and parent book day will be held at the Rappahannock County Elementary and High Schools on Thursday, Aug. 26 from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Book fees, other associated fees, parking fees, etc. should be paid that day.
