Cooter to perform at benefit
Cooter (Ben Jones, from Dukes of Hazzard) along with David Clanagan and Free Spirit, Yolanda Deane, Wanda Rutherford and many others will team up on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Sperryville fire hall for a benefit. The event will benefit Roger Rutherford of Sperryville, who has leukemia. “Roger has done lots of volunteer work for the Sperryville Rescue Squad, he’s the type of person, who has given a lot to the community so we are asking people to come and support this worthwhile endeavor,” said Clanagan.
Cub Scout sign-up night set
Any boy in grades one through five interested in joining Cub Scouts, may do so at Back-to-School night, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. at the RCES cafeteria. Anyone with questions should contact Joe Peregory at 937-6163.
Family reunion planned
The Atkins and Dodson families will host their annual reunion on Sunday, Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the 4-H Educational Center at the Thwaite Shelter. Family members and friends are invited to attend and should bring a picnic lunch to share. For more information call Ruth Ann Henry at 635-2854.

The family reunion of the late Henry T. Wharton and Lillie M. Cloud Wharton will be held at the Rappahannock Park near Washington on Sept. 4. “Family members and friends are invited to attend, bring a picnic basket and join us,” said a spokesperson.
