MosDy used during the Civil War. This area also supplied Mosby with a number of troops.
The image on bottles of wine from Gray Ghost is from an original painting by A1 Kellert, designed to reflect the appearance of Mosby during the Civil War. The lettering for “Gray Ghost” is taken from a composite of Mosby’s Handwriting. Colonel Mosby, however, was never known to have actually written or referred to himself as the Gray Ghost.
The winery is open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. to the public. They do, however, provide private tours by advance reservation. In addition to being on the Stuart-Mosby tour, they offer picnics during warm weather season to give people a chance to experience wine with food. Other events at the winery include a Civil War author’s program in November, Christmas open house, anniversary open house in July and Chocolates and Cavemet in February. Like the name of this last one implies, you get to experience how wines couple with desserts.
