The board gave approval for work on the Clopton House to begin, provided that the architects review parking on Gay Street and explore alternatives to removing part of the wall on Main Street. The also approved, in concept, the work on the Mercantile building subject to a review of demolition.
Other business
• The board had no trouble approving a proposal by The Inn at Little Washington. They wish to renovate and make visual improvements to the house between the rose cottage and the corner house on Gay and Middle Streets.
Improvements include rebuilding the porch and steps, replacing broken windows, adding antique shudders, removing the screen from the door and adding flower pots. The vote was 3-0, with O’Connell abstaining.
