Organic horticulturist Donna LaPre’s vision for plantings at the new Sperryville Turn Lane have become a reality despite the multi-pronged attack of weather, highway fumes, errant tires, and road litter.
Perhaps it is incorrect to call these turn lane improvements simply “plantings”-they might be better referred to as “ecosystem creations,” and their tolerance to conditions unkind may be directly attributable to the fact that, hard by the highway, Donna has developed a home for a largely native collection of flora and fauna.
