There is little likelihood of drought relief soon. The jet stream normally lifts rain-producing weather systems to the north during the summer, and continues to do so this summer. The rainfall deficit through the past year, however, has eliminated the surplus typically available at the end of the spring, leading to continued and worsening drought conditions.
The outlook through August 19 shows a bias toward drier than normal conditions, but the outlook through August still shows the possibility of wetter than normal conditions, and the outlook through October shows a decided bias toward wetter than normal precipitation.
