William McDonough noted that they are trying to; create a “gentle garden.” in town, and preserve . the; town’s most important historical features! He added that all “significant trees” on the site will be preserved.
Town Attorney John C.’ Bennett advised that the ARB might want to postpone action until the Board of Zoning Appeals acts, and that this application may have to go before town council. He also advised that the plans were not specific enough, as far as showing proposed materials and components to be used.
Board Secretary Patrick O’Connell responded that these plans were the most thorough he has seen since being on this board, and that to render the board powerless to act when they have acted on similar situations ini the past is “peculiar.v Bennett responded that he doesn’t; think the board has heard a case quite like this before! >
Board Chairman Ed Barton responded by saying* that once they have all the information they need, thenthey should act.. He added that approval or disapproval! can be appealed to the town council. Donna Kevis; seemed to agree, but thought that they should keep open' the option of postponing action on this application. ^ !
Demolition is an issue for the board. Barton stated that when addressing demolition, you have three issues: What’s being taken do\vn, why. it’s-being tajbext down and what’s going up in its place. .
