teachers at the school, Gillespie says the school board realizes the importance of having teachers in the school as coaches.
The time that goes into coaching hardly justifies the $2,000 a year awarded. During season, a coach will work an average of 25 hours a week. And if the travel time is significant for a game, the hours go up considerably.
But a coach is rewarded by the love of the game and what it does for the players. Gillespie says the team learns time management skills which will hopefully keep them out of trouble. The team members also learn life skills which will help them down the road. And playing on a team will help a student expand their horizons.
