They have little time to do that as their first game against Luray is set for Dec. 2. They will practice, every day until that game, sometimes early in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. They will also do separate training for physical conditioning, quick hitting and serving.
With all this practice, the team members are still getting their homework done. Conklin says the girls all have a grade point average of 3.4 or above.
Conklin grew up in Shenandoah County and attended Central High School, where, she says, athletics are much stronger. But in the six years she has been at Rappahannock County High School, her team has won district championships, despite limitations in the high school’s facilities.
Conklin says that the lack of a weight room and paved track greatly impedes the students chances to compete with other schools who have better facilities. But, still, the students do fairly t i in competition.
