Kenny and Shannon Lowry opened Southern Grace in Sperryville nearly 18 months ago. Since that time, their inventory has tripled. Initially, most of the items for sale were housed inside. But now a huge array of lawn furniture, lawn accents, and gardening accessories can be found outside.
Mr. Lowry recently completed the slate patio in front of the building which he laid himself. And there is an entrance to the front of the building which was not used before.
Mr. Lowry says, “Everything is new outside. The fence, the front patio, the bird houses, the Cypress furniture.”
And surprisingly enough, the outdoor items sell as well as the indoor Christmas oriented items at this time of year. Mr. Lowry says, “I think gardening has gotten to be a year round passion for people.”
One of the hot sellers is something called a Chimenea, which can be translated as a small fireplace. In Mexico, Chimeneas are used as ovens. People are buying them here for outdoor decoration, but they are functional in that they put out quite a bit of heat. Many buyers place them next to their hot tubs.
Cypress wood comes from the Florida swamps and is naturally rot-resistant, so it is ideal for patio furniture. The furniture is handcrafted by a man from North Carolina, and can best be typified as rustic, twig furniture. The Lowrys are the sole distributors of the furniture in Virginia.
