You know why V I like ‘Em? They REVIEW don’t seem to take . — themselves too seriously. Well, they do seem to be serious musicians and serious about their music, but they do not appear to be either megalomaniac nor too taken with their destinies, if you know what I mean.
Their new CD, “Launch” does a few things for me. One, it convinced me that their Charlottesville B’ and Aid Competition win was no fluke; two, that the studio time awarded as a result of that win was not wasted; three, that the artistry of their play is not at all contradicted by the whimsy often evident in their new recording, but rather gives them the right to play what they will, ‘cause we’re gonna enjoy it.
What do they play? According to manager Chip Warren, “they’re a fusion of reggae, ska, funk and rock.” On “Launch” you’ll hear it all. And you’ll hear some social commentary, a little humor, and a beat you can dance to. Maybe we could call their unique blend of music skrag, after ska, reggae, and Old Rag. Maybe not.
