crest. The other vehicle was legally traveling in his lane. Best lost control and ran off the road to the left, struck a fence, and overturned a couple times. The driver and her passenger sustained visible injuries. Charges are pending for reckless driving, but the driver is in critical condition.
On Nov. 22 at 7:08 a.m. in Sperryville, an accident occurred involving two vehicles and a deer. Kenneth Stanley of Warrenton was driving a ‘98 Kenworth on Route 231 when he struck a deer. The deer was thrown into the other lane and hit an oncoming ‘88 Chevy belonging to Wilbur Atkins of Sperryville. The deer went through Atkins’ windshield and the driver was injured. Stanley’s vehicle sustained $1000 damage, Atkins’ repair was estimated at $4500 and the deer did not survive.
On Nov. 21, a simple assault was reported in Flint Hill. The assault occurred in the fire department’s parking lot around 11:30 p.m. The victim reported that for no reason a guy struck him in the mouth with his fist. The victim obtained an arrest warrant for assault and battery.
On Nov. 21, a mailbox vandalism was reported in Sperryville. It appeared that someone had struck the mailbox with an ax.
On Nov. 18, a grand larceny occurred in Amissville. Jewelry, tools and stereo equipment worth an estimated $14,000 were taken from a private residence. A forced entry was not reported as one of the doors was unlocked.
On Nov. 9 in Flint Hill, a man was driving south on Route 522 when what he thought was a rock hit his vehicle. He could hear the “rock” rattling in his wheel on his way home to Amissville. Once he got home, he inspected his car and found a bullet hole. Authorities found a bullet, a 50 caliber black powder round, embedded in the vehicle. Sherertz commented, “It is a felony to shoot at a vehicle. We’re going to have to look into this. It could have been an accident. It could have been deliberate.”
