Laura Conklin has been coaching the girls’ varsity volleyball team for six years at Rappahannock County High School. She is a physical education teacher. And for the last three years in a row, she has been awarded Coach of the Year. She is the number one choice for this position.
This year Conklin has four players returning from last year’s season: Meghan Fairbrother, Rebekah Letsen, Alice Gentry and Ashley McNeely. And Conklin says Fairbrother, Letsen, and Gentry are three of her hardest hitters.
The other hard hitter is Rachel Sharp, a ninth grader. This is the first time Conklin has chosen a ninth grader to be on the varsity team.
Another interesting item about this year’s line-up: Jenny Waters. Conklin says that Jenny has never played before in her life and she is doing very well.
