At the first meeting of the newly reorganized Rappahannock County •Democratic Committee (RCDC) on Tuesday, Jan. 4 another standing-room-only group of Democrats gathered, this time to unanimously accept the revised bylaws.
The new bylaws allowed the committee to be “open” to additional members, and as soon as the bylaws were voted in, four new members were elected to the committee. The committee membership now stands at fifty-four.
A new feature of the RCDC’s Bylaws is the fixing of a regular monthly meeting, to be the first Tuesday of every month. The meetings are always open to all, and county Democrats are especially encouraged to attend, whether • committee members or not.
Another piece of business was the choosing of leaders from each of the five magisterial districts. Tasked with organizing their precincts are, from Hampton District: Bill Tieckelmann; from Jackson District; Hal Hunter; from Piedmont District: Bill Kossler; from StonewallHawthorne: Joyce Abell and Wendy Weinberg; and from Wakefield: Linda Dietel and Lee Trott. Anyone who would "like to help with the organizing of a precinct, please contact one of these people. All offers of help are greatly appreciated.
Under the new RCDC Bylaws the five Standing Committees are: Outreach, Communications, Issues, Fund-Raising and District Operations. The chairs of those committees will serve on the Steering Committee along with the officers of the RCDC chosen last month.
Kate Gagnon was elected to chair the Outreach Committee and Fran Moore was elected to chair the Communications Committee. Anyone interested in assisting on either or both of those committees is encouraged to contact the chair.
