Shirley Frye
Home: Tiger Valley Road, ! Washington. Occupation: Cafeteria worker at Rappahannock County Elementary School for 22 years. Accomplishments: Shirley Frye has had the same job for 22 years and loves it. She remembers a story of a little child coming through the cafeteria line and he made a remark that he didn’t want a particular item, Ms. Frye told the little boy, “it may not look good, but it tastes good." Reluctantly the boy took the food and later returned to tell Ms. Frye that it was good. She constantly encourages children. Ms. Frye enjoys cooking, but she always wanted to be a nurse. So it’s no surprise that in her “spare time” she does in-home care for Mrs. Pauline Bruce. She enjoys the self-satisfaction that is derived from this aspect of work. And, as if all this is not enough to keep Ms. Frye busy, she also cleans at the Rappahannock Medical Center and F&M Bank in Flint Hill. . ,k

Macedonia Baptist Church and sings in the choir there. She is the mother of two girls and two boys, all grown; nine grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
