Many thanks to the individuals and businesses in the
Amissville area who, through their generosity and hard work, made the 1999 Amissville Community Christmas Drive a huge success. Many participated this year for the first time insuring that this will be a program that will endure over time. More than 69 families were touched this year and food boxes were more generous than ever before.
We appreciate greatly the following community businesses that allowed us to place collection boxes and coin jars in their establishments; C&W Auto, Hackley’s Store, Lom-Bar-Dy Restaurant and Mayhugh’s Store. The community churches always support this effort fully, and the members of the Amissville Ruritan Club came through with flying colors as usual.
Certain individuals and businesses are deserving of special recognition this year: Amy Hitt, who arranged for donations of all of our needed turkeys from Walmart, as well as gift certificates for groceries from Walmart and Food Lion (many thanks to those establishments, as well); the Manion family (Cheryl, Kara and Robbie), Holden family (Joanie and David) and Josh Makela who assisted with the food baskets; our stellar group of
