Commission
will meet
Chairman, Delegate Jay Katzen, has announced that the March 29 meeting of the Rappahannock River Basin Commission will be held at the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department in Washington. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.in.
In addition to receiving DEQ updates on the Rappahannock River Water Quality Management Plan and the Strategy Implementation Process and Timelines, Mr. Alan Pollock, Director, Office of Water Quality Programs of DEQ will be presenting information on the Draft Chesapeake Bay 2000 Agreement.
The commission will also receive work group reports and updates on riparian buffers from Mike Foreman of the Virginia Department of Forestry and new information on the planned removal of the Embrey Dam by David Whitehurst of the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Katzen indicated his pleasure with the General Assembly’s renewed funding for the commission during the just completed 2000 legislative session. “We have achieved a lot of success in a relatively short period of time, but much work is still needed to fully implement the commission’s overall goals,” Katzen said. Attendees of the March 29 meeting will also be introduced to Matthew Criblez, the newly appointed DCR Rappahannock Watershed Coordinator.
