Engineering Technician VI, Position #07006

We are seeking a qualified applicant to design hydraulic drain systems for proposed and existing highway projects for our Location and Design Section. Designs drainage systems for proposed rural and urban road construction projects by independently computing drop inlets and storm sewer systems and storm water management facilities. Determines and designs appropriate erosion and sedimentation control measures in accordance to state law. Uses computers, electronic and hydraulic calculators, aerial photographs, topographical maps, drainage manuals, and road and bridge standards in the design of drainage systems. Conducts on-site visits to ensure conformity with plans and represents the Department at project showings and pre-construction meetings. May also compute quantities for special designs m and standard items that are including in proposed and final construction cost estimates. Candidates must have considerable knowledge of state erosion and sedimentation control law. Must have knowledge and skill in CADD and drafting methods and plan preparation and complex projects. Demonstrated ability to apply engineering design principles by developing plans for routine and complex projects. Must be skilled in performing complex mathematical calculations including trigonometry. Candidate should possess good communication and customer service skills. Coursework in math, mechanical drawing, and civil engineering desirable. Certification in Erosion and Sediment Control Program Administrator, Inspector of Plan Reviewer is preferred. A valid Virginia Driver’s License is required. Selected candidate subject to a DMV driving record review. NOTE: If there are insufficient number of qualified applicants for the Engineering Technician VI, it may be filled as an Engineering Technician IV. The Engineering Technician IV position will have comparable duties and qualifications as stated above. Salary: $25,881 - $40,406.

Salary: $30,929 - $48,287 (Grade 11), plus 11 paid holidays, 8 paid sick days & 4 paid personal days , to start; up to 12 paid vacation days 1st year; paid retirement contribution; health and life insurance are provided with no waiting periods.

Position open to the General Public and VDOT Employees.
