Nudge...wink...

A news story in New York papers recently told of a woman

whose bank account was erroneously credited with $800,000. When the bank discovered the error and tried to recover the money, she had already spent over $250,000. Her excuse: she thought she had won a lottery. (Nudge, nudge; wink, wink).

A similar thing happened in Rappahannock County last week, although not on such a grand scale monetarily but similar in impact on our rural community.

A group operating a private school went before the Rappahannock Planning Commission to up the allowable number of students from 75 to 115. Then an alert citizen discovered that they had never had an allowable number of 75 students. Guess they thought they, too, had won a lottery. (Nudge, nudge; wink, wink)
