Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Norris’ Fifth Grade, Mrs. Wolfe’s Sixth Grade and the entire Third Grade, Ms. Tillinghast, Mrs. Propst, Mrs. Shankle and Mrs. Johnson’s classes. Third grade won ovef all with the highest percentage in the school.
• Students in Mrs. Makela’s Sixth and Seventh Grade Band Enrichment classes recently competed in a Composition Contest where they were required to write a piece of music, following very specific guidelines, and then to perform it anonymously on tape. It was a challenging activity and all students participated.
Judges for the event were Mrs. Fournier, Band Director, Mrs. Evelyn Oyster, RCHS Chorus Instructor and Mrs. Joy Rollins, RCES Music Teacher, who each judged the entries from the taped performances independently from one another. This was a difficult event to judge and we are very grateful for the effort of these wonderful teachers.
Winners were: Brass Composition, Jacob Stilley, first place, Mattie Nawrocki, second, Brandan Smoot, third and Tommy Pendleton, honorable mention; Percussion Composition: Caitlin McCarthy, first, Justin Burger, second, Samantha Brown, third and Anthony Clinedinst, honorable mention; Woodwinds Composition: Anna Kreyling, first, Kelsey Hutcheson, second, Morgan Blubaugh, third and Nicole Hess, honorable mention.
• Mrs. Fournier announced that the gentleman, who attended to make a CD of the Fifth-Seventh Grade Band Concert at RCHS last week, remarked repeatedly that he had heard many Middle School and Junior High bands in several states and that our band was the best that he had ever heard!
