“This Old Town” by Auldridge, Bennett and Gaudreau was released by Rebel Records and the performers will be at Blue Moon Cafe in Sperryville on June 16 from 9 p.m. to midnight. There will be a $10 cover charge. A blend of modem and traditional folk and bluegrass showcases this acoustic supergroup. The group is composed of guitarist Mike Auldridge, a founding member of Washington D.C.’s legendary bluegrass bands, The Seldom Scene and Chesapeake. Flatpick virtuoso Richard Bennett was playing bluegrass in his father’s band at the age of eight. In 1990 Bennett joined J.D. Crowe and The New South and in 1997 formed his own band and released two CD’s. Mandolin genius Jimmy Gaudreau, has been much in demand as a sideman for over 30 years. He was with the Country Gentlemen for several years when he replaced John Duffy on mandolin and tenor vocals. After leaving the Gentlemen he went on to help form several bands, and along with Mike Auldridge he was one of the founding members of the band Chesapeake. Kip Martin serves as the bands upright bassist. Mark your calendars and plan to attend the show at Blue Moon on Friday, June 16.
