Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann Biggs also reported on two communications received from the Headwaters Foundation: one was a donation of $500 for the Rappahannock Educational Growth Foundation, and the other described Headwaters’ summer adventure program for rising seventh through tenth' graders and requested that the' school board okay school bus; use for the five adventure program trips. The board accepted the donation and approved the use of a school bus. , I
In public comments, Pat; Metcalf criticized the senior! trip scheduling that resulted; in a conflict with girls’ soccerregional competition. Mrs. Metcalf suggested that a broad-based committee be established to formulate plans for the senior trip that would avoid the type of conflict that forced seniors Allison Baker and Meghan Fairbrother to have to choose to support the team and thus miss the senior trip. Dr. Gangel agreed to look into establishing such a committee and report back to the Board on results.
Other activities
• Recent graduate and outgoing Student Representative Jami Gillis presented her final Student Representative report. She noted that Jeff Simeon had been elected Student Representative, and also spoke about the senior trip.
• Ron Makela suggested that the board attempt to “instill public interest in the upcoming election” by encouraging cross-curriculum election-related studies.
