PTO offers redirect of playground funds
to teacher pay
In a letter from the Rappahannock County Parent Teacher Organization read during the Communications and Public Comment portion of the meeting, PTO President Jimmy Swindler conveyed the organization’s offer to have the School Board redirect playground matching funds to teacher salary increases. This offer was based on a proposal by PTO Playground Committee Chair Shannon Swain and was unanimously approved by the PTO membership. On an annual basis the PTO receives $10,000 in playground improvement matching funds from the school system, and the PTO’s offer would have the school board reallocate these funds for teacher salary improvements “so that our schools can attract and retain the top quality teachers our students deserve.” The board applauded the offer,
