Sludge
ordinance
to be
revisited

The Planning Commission’s August 29 work session on the sludge ordinance will result in the return of the ordinance for another public hearing. The Commissioners, supported by County
Administrator John McCarthy and County Attorney Peter Luke, engaged in a paragraph-by-paragraph review of the draft ordinance, and they proposed changes that render the ordinance more restrictive, thus dictating its rehearing before the public.
According to Mr. McCarthy, the Planning Commission will consider, at their September meeting, a resolution in which their proposed changes are consolidated and affirmed, after which they will set a date for the new public hearing. Because the Commission’s plate is rather full with a September public hearing on Sprint PCS’ cell tower application and with public hearings to be scheduled on the lighting ordinance, in addition to the sludge ordinance, it is not yet clear whether the sludge ordinance hearing will be scheduled for October, November, or for a later date.
