Fall sports began in earnest with the first week of school.
The Girl’s Basketball Tbams opened their season and the Cross Country Team ran in the big Stonewall scrimmage at the New Market battlefield. Back to school means renewed excitement for the students and the athletes were no exception.

It’s been a long time since three Lady Panthers scored in double figures and who knows, maybe it never has occurred. Nevertheless, the Varsity team showed the home crowd that they were going to be treated to some pretty good girls’ basketball this season.
Senior Amanda Weakley led the way with 19 points for the home squad and junior Rachel Sharp, in her first game as a Lady Panther, contributed 16 points. But it was the driving energy of senior point guard and Captain Gwen Johnson that was the catalyst for the action.
Scoring 11 points and attacking the Luray defense, Johnson’s on-court leadership was extremely impressive. When the game in the “Sweatbox,” ended it was Rapp 59 and Luray 36.
After the game, Head Coach Mike Dayton said, “It was a total team effort and a great way to start the season.”
The junior varsity had a tougher time of it then the varsity. Spotting the visiting Luray girls to a 16 to 2 initial lead, they couldn’t recover and make up the difference. Freshman Mattie Nawrocki led the JV Lady Panthers with six points and Molly Burke, Hope Jacobs and Anna Kreyling each added
