George T. Grimsley retired effective Sept. 1 after working for 33 years with the Virginia Department of Highways as an equipment operator. He was given a wrist watch by his fellow employees and received a certificate from Maintenance Superintendent W.D. Bywaters.
If the county supervisors give their stamp of approval, the Rappahannock Recreation Authority will be awarded a $63,837 matching grant to transform the recreation center across the highway from the town of Washington into Rappahannock County Park.
The Virginia Commission of Outdoor Recreation has already approved the grant. The only obstacle still remaining before formal approval of the award is given in Richmond on Sept. 22 is securing a promise from the supervisors that they will “take title to assume responsibility for the Rappahannock County Park.”
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hawkins of Washington celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with relatives and friends at a dinner and dance given by their children on Aug. 22 at Amissville fire hall. In addition to their children, they were joined by approximately 80 guests.
