Each had the opportunity to take several “minor” classes in reptiles, insects, forest ecology, ornithology, rocks, botany, ferns, phenology (the study of the timing of natural events from year to year and place to place and the relationship of those events to weather and climate), and nature art.
The attendees also hiked and swam, and met students from across the state, all interested in nature. It was a very special experience for the young people as well as for the club members to hear about it.
Joan Herrema, Flo Phillips, and Helen Smith as hostesses presented a lovely table of refreshments and flowers for the cluh members to enjoy.
September’s meeting will include flower arrangement competition in “Splash of Autumn” and “Transparency” design themes. Candace Clough, an estate gardener, will present a discussion and slide presentation on landscaping.
