Allison Russo, a member of Rappahannock County’s Old Rag Mountain Pony Club, was part of a four-person team representing the Virginia Region that won fifth place in the Know Down competition at this month’s U.S. Pony Club National Championships in Lexington, Ky.
Her team, made up of the top scorers from the Virginia Region Pony Club’s Know Down competition back in February, competed at the Kentucky Horse Park over a three day period in a variety of disciplines which included oral and written testing, hand’s-on knowledge, and stable management.
Her team placed fifth place in a field of 40 teams that competed from all across the country.
Miss Russo had a perfect score in the verbal competitions, and received 49 out of 50 points in her written test.
Miss Russo, an avid horseback rider, said she very much appreciated the training and guidance she had received over the past year from her Pony Club District Commissioner, Abigaile Gille, and her instructor, Sherry Hamill-Huff in preparing for
