It has not been too long since Rappahannock County faced its last drought and that one, in 1999, proved long-lasting and rather costly to local farmers, gardeners, and orchardists.
This week’s rains may have brought some relief, but the precipitation deficit, due to serious shortfalls since late summer, still exceeds three inches for the year, and favorable spring crop moisture levels are entirely dependent upon the next few month’s precipitation.
