Be generous as you consider the
approaching holiday season
s the holidays approach, most of us are busy
planning parties, dinners, visits with family X JLand friends, and just becoming swept up in gen eral with the spirit of the season.
As you make your list this year we have three suggestions to add.
First, consider a gift to the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services. They will be accepting donations of food and money to assist families in need during the holiday season. All donations are used to aid the families and elderly that live in Rappahannock. A portion of the donations will be shared with foster children throughout the county.
Quite often people donate to what they consider charitable organizations without a clue as to where their money is going and what portion is actually going to the needy verses the administrative cost. Giving locally you can rest assured that you have given direct assistance to help brighten the life of a child or elderly person right here in Rappahannock.
Next, consider the Shop with a Deputy program. This program now in its sixth year provides for some of the most needy children in our community. The Sheriff's Office and other county representatives select children whose families have little or no funds for the holiday season. Captain Jeff Brown of the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office and School Resource Officer is in charge of the program and is always available to answer questions concerning this project.
Last, don’t forget your local volunteer fire and rescue department. The volunteers work hard all year to provide emergency services to our communities. On top of the training and drills necessary to maintain their skills, and responding to the actual emergency calls, most volunteers spend extra time helping their department raise the money to keep it operating.
We are sure these three organizations as well as other organizations that serve various segments of our community would appreciate a holiday donation.
