Call to artists

The Middle Street Gallery is accepting artwork for their 2001 Holidays show focusing on the art of gift giving. Submitted work will be juried by gallery members. There will be no entry fee. A 40 percent (30 percent for members) gallery commission will be deducted from all sales. There is no limit to the number of pieces submitted, but gallery space is limited so please keep work small.

The Middle Street Gallery reserves the right to reject any work not meeting its standards. Show opens Nov. 30 and doses Dec. 30. For information and entry form call the Middle Street Gallery at 675-3440 or Steven Kenny at 675-2355.

Ragged Mountain activities

The following activities are scheduled for the month of December through the Ragged Mountain Resource Center. For additional information call Hunt Harris at 987-3366.

• Saturday, Dec. 1: Twilight/Moonlight hike of Old Rag Mountain. Meet at upper parking lot for Old Rag (Nethers side) between 6:30-7 p.m. Bring layerable clothing, comfortable yet sturdy footwear, back-up light and nourishment for self.

• Wednesday, Dec. 5. Hike/Run (intensive workout)* Meet at footbridge in parking lot of Oldway Art Center across from Mountainside Market, on US 211 west of Sperryville, by 1 p.m

• Saturday, Dec. 8: Second Saturday Hike Series. Destination: trails along headwaters of upper Rappahannock watershed tributaries, (will vary according to weather, group dynamics and hike leader discretion). Meet at Mountainside Market on US 211 west of Sperryville between 8-8:30 and return mid-late afternoon. Bring layerable clothing and nourishment for self.

Christmas tour of homes

Get ready for the eighth annual Christmas Tour of Homes In historic Culpeper. This year's tour features seven homes and two churches on North East Street and East Piedmont Street The South East Neighborhood Watch sponsors the tour with proceeds contributed to scholarships for Culpeper County High School students. Mark your calendar for Saturday, Dec. 1 from 12 to 5 p.m. For information call 825-8200.
