MAGISTRATE I

An independent judicial office serving primarily Rappahannock County. Requires Virginia residency, a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or equivalent experience, an impeccable record as verified by background check. Responsibilities include arrest/release decisions, conducting neutral and impartial hearings/interviews and ascertaining and evaluating facts. Most competitive applicants will; demonstrate competence in conducting hearings, maintaining order and decorum in a highly charged, sensitive and hostile circumstances, reading, applying and explaining laws and ordinances, conducting research concerning legal questions and communicating effectively with the public and criminal justice community. Applicants must have a working knowledge of computers and be available for 24-hour shifts. We are available 365 days per year and are expected to respond within 20 minutes to the office.
