On the weekend beginning Friday, Dec. 7, this little town will open its annual Colonial Christmas Celebration with an 8 p.m, perfurmance of “The Shepherd's Play', a 14th century Christmas drama, at the Ki Theatre on Gay Street, fob lowed by two days of Christmas festivities. Colonial dancing and caroling throughout the village.
“In view of what is happening in the world today, a celebration like this helps bring us all together and reminds us of how important it is to maintain continuity in our lives through our traditions.* said Mayor Stewart'Willis one afternoon recently after he visited shopkeepers and merchants to firm up activities each is planning for the celebration.
Throughout the weekend of Dec, 7-9, residents and visitors can find special gifts and treats at shops and art galleries, along streets decorated with garlands and wreaths and candlelit lanterns. Costumed members of the 4-H Pony Club will be riding through town as town criers, announcing festivities throughout the weekend, ^according to Colonial Christmas organiser Claudia Mitchell.
The Middle Street Gallery will have a Christmas Open House and sale of gifts created by members of this artists’ co-op.
Many businesses are staying open late to accommodate Christmas shoppers, including The Odyssey Gallery on Main Street which is holding a wine and cheese reception on Friday evening for fiber artist derry Scalone. showing her art to wear, from 5-9 p.m.
