Could be celebration-free-help wanted!

County's Fourth of July Celebration in
Washington after all these years might be understandable — the event's planning and operation has taken hundreds and hundreds of hours of sometimes thankless work each year — but the anticipation of a celebration-free 2002 puts a chill on visions of next summer’s Fourth of July.
Imagine an Independence Day in Rappahannock County without crowds and food and music and a blanket under the starbursts at Avon Hall.
That could well become a reality. George Rosenbaum was the sole volunteer to come forth and take on those management burdens this year, and he has an uphill battle on his hands.
The poor turnout at this week's first meeting on the Independence Day Celebration bodes ill for the 2002 event and, unless twenty more helpers come forth, the fried chicken that we eat next July 4 may come from the grill in the back yard. And there won't be fireworks there.
The Independence Day Committee formation meeting is scheduled for Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Town Hall. Be there!
