Two years ago, Alma Viator and Ben Jones performed A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” at the Theatre at Washington, Va. to a standing ovation and rave reviews from those who were there. They are bringing the show back for one performance only, on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m.
“It was a magic evening for us,” says Jones. “Folks who were there are still asking us to do it again, and many others have said they missed it and would love for us to reprise it. So we thought it would be a perfect Valentine’s Day show.
“Love Letters,” a smash hit on and off-Broadwav, was written to be read aloud by two actors in a simple setting. It traces the lifelong correspondence of Andrew Ladd and Melissa Gardner and through their letters reveals their poignant, bittersweet relationship.
“The Theatre at Washington is a wonderful space,”says Viator, “and ‘Love Letters’ works so well there. For Ben and me it was a return to our theatre roots and we are very excited to be able to perform it there again.”
Viator and Jones are both veterans of the stage whose experiences in show business have led them into several careers.
