This happened under the rule of the Roman Emperor Claudis, who had them beheaded and both of them were buried the same day. Could it have been because of the love of these men by the people, that Valentine’s Day was begun? In the fourth century a church was built over the graves of these two men.
Arizona was admitted to the union as a state on Feb. 14, 1912, and they recognize the day as “Admission Day”.
The State of Maryland was the first to begin sending gifts, especially jewelry with valentines.
Some residents of the Ozarks are convinced that Feb. 14 is the real “Groundhog Day”. Another interesting fact; the State of Oregon recognizes the day as a “Day of Commemoration”.
The first commercial valentine appeared in the 1800’s; so whenever, Valentine’s Day remains as a day to express love and happiness to all.
