Mrs. Violet E. Jones, 101. of Lynchburg died Saturday, Feb. 9 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was born on July 29. 1900 in Amherst County, the daughter of the late Rosa Ogden Ewers and Samuel Hanna Ewers.
She was the widow of the late James L. Jones Sr.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by a daughter, Lila Jones Grubb.; two sisters, Lucille Ewers Jackson and Evelyn Ewers White and two brothers, Harry Ewers Sr. and Carl Ewers.
Survivors include a son, James L. Jones Jr. of Boston and her son-in-law, John B. Grubb of Chatham. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
A graduate of the Piedmont Business College of Lynchburg, Mrs. Jones was retired from the J.P. Bell Company of Lynchburg.
She was active in the Old Dominion Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and an avid history buff.
Mrs. Jones had a lifelong interest in gardening and served as a past president of the Lynchburg African Violet Society.
Graveside services were conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Spring Hill Cemetery by Rev. Dr. Stan Pigue.
Diuguid Funeral Service in Lynchburg was in charge of the arrangements.
