This year's “Hoot,” an annual fundraising event for Hearthstone School in Sperryville, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Blue Moon Cafe . The Saturday date will allow a longer Hoot than in previous years, when performers and attendees were facing a Monday “morning-after.”
The “25 for 25" theme reflects the extended hours, as 25 performers will take the Blue Moon's stage from 6:25 p.m. to 12:25 p.m. The goal of the event is to raise $2,500 towards completion of a community performance, meeting, and activities space which will occupy 25 percent of Hearthstone’s main building.
There will be a $8 cover charge which will help to meet this goal, as wrell as a 25 percent raffle (in which the winner takes home 25 percent of the raffle take). Advance raffle tickets ($10 each or 3 for $25) are available through Hearthstone parents and teachers, at area retailers, or by calling the school at 987-9212.
Artists donating their time and talent to this year’s Hoot include Everything lead singer Craig Honeycutt, Daycare Swindlers frontman Noah Waggoner, and singer/songwriters Diane Bardwell, Alice Currin, Rafael Lorenzo, Ben Mason, Amy Silver, and Michele Weiss. In addition, there will be musical performances by Hearthstone students conducted by Dontez Harris, a student drumming group led by Beth Levick, and a series of one-act plays under eight minutes in length each directed by Miranda Hope. Warren Phinney will MC.
W’hen complete, Hearthstone’s performance space will be available to members of the community to rent for events such as dances, performances, classes such as yoga, karate, and movement, and other activities reqilTRing a large open space.
Last year’s Hoot, held in February 2001, raised $1,300 towards the renovation of a barn on the Hearthstone campus into the new Nursery/Kindergarten building. Renovation of that building was completed in September, 2001.
