July 5, 1962

T. Carlyle Lea Jr. of Washington has been appointed as County Judge to succeed Judg6 B.M. Miller, who served the county for 17 years. Judge R.V. Snead, of the circuit court, administered the oath of office to IVlr. Lea on Monday. ' Mr. Lea will preside as Trial Justice, Judge of Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Last Saturday night, Chester Gap completed its second annual firemen’s carnival. It was very well attended with an exceptionally large crowd enjoying the nearly perfect weather and the new carnival grounds on Saturday.

Rappahannock Rescue Squad will kick-off their 1962 fund campaign with a house-tohouse canvass starting Friday, July 20. Captain of the squad for over ten years, Frank Huff is most optimistic about easily going over the $1,000 goal.

Twenty boy scouts from this area are attending camp at Rock Enon near Gore. Troop #64 from Washington will spend two weeks and Troop #36, Flint Hill will stay a week.
