The bulk of the time spent working in emergency services is spent on support type tasks. The training required to respond to these emergency calls is a never ending requirement.
The emergency vehicles require a significant amount of time and effort to keep them prepared for calls. Station administrative tasking seems to constantly increase as State and Local governments compound new directives on top of the existing requirements. Station buildings and grounds are alw ays in need of attention. You would not believe the number of meetings necessary to coordinate emergency services and emergency organizations. Considerable time is spent in preparing for county funding requirements, station audits and of course — station inspections.
