I was listening to the radio the
other day, when I heard a news report come on. The announcer said that this American was fighting the government because he believes that our Pledge of Allegiance is "unconstitutional." The man was apparently an Atheist and didn’t want his daughter to be subjected to this "religiondirected pledge." I became furiou^. This shouldn't even be an issue here.
America is based upon Christianity, but we don’t make it (the set religion. Our founding fathers, the men who set this country up and made it what it is today, were all Christians. Despite the law in the constitution that there should be a separation between church and state, this is the major religion in America and is the basis of our government. What that law means is that the Congress is not allowed to establish an official religion in this country. The beliefs of Christianity were what made the laws and ways of life in America.
By simply saving "One nation, under God..." isn't demanding that people practice a Christian religion. We are very free with our religions. We allow anyone to practice any religion, anytime, and practically anywhere. We may disagree with their standards or beliefs, but we are a nation that tolerates the differences
