General Assembly would be considering the sewage sludge matter. To date, they have not acted on the county's draft ordinance. The county's long standing ordinance which banned sludge was previously struck null and void by court action. Currently, the County does not have an ordinance for sludge operations. The Supervisors assure citizens that the document can be enacted during the required 90-day period between an application to apply the material and starting the actual work.
In February, Vice Chairman Bob Anderson (Stonewall/Hawthorne District) reported that Delegate Orrock suggested that the county join with several other counties in contributing funds for a lobbying effort to gain passage of the sludge legislation. The Supervisors, by motion of Bryant Lee (Hampton District), approved a contribution of $2500 if matching funds could be found for the $5000 contribution. RLEP provided the matching funds. A lobbying effort at the General Assembly level is continuing.
