Times Community Newspapers of Northern Virginia announced last week a longterm contract to expand printing for its 18 newspapers at Gannett Offset in Springfield, which also prints the Washington editions of The New York Times and USA Today.
Peter W. Arundel, president, said the “move provides a platform for growth in the areas of circulation, advertising and page count. We studied ways to expand our existing operation in downtown Leesburg and concluded we’d outgrow it again in several years.” The action follows similar moves in recent years by the Washington Post and other large U.S. newspapers moving press operations out of congested downtown locations.
The family owned company, started in 1963 with purchase of the 200-year-old Loudoun Times-Mirror by current Chairman and Publisher Arthur W. Arundel, now publishes 18 Northern Virginia newspapers with a combined circulation of 246,837.
