In the public hearing on the issue, the Sprint attorney was asked when the system will be expanded to cover such areas as Sperryville and the western and southern portions of the county, which would not be served by the seven towers to the east and north.
Michal responded: “We want to get a preliminary network up and see how the customers respond to it” before considering any expansion. He added, “We would not be able to predict where other sites would be planned” until Sprint sees what kind of usage and revenues the first towers generate.
Robert Weinberg, who lives in the southern part of the county, asked the board to require Sprint to submit a plan to serve the rest of the county before granting the one-year extension. “It’s less than 50 percent of the county that is being served” by the planned seven towers, he said.
