Thus land under easement has the effect of lowering the LCI and thereby increasing state aid to the county Currently there are approximately 14,587'acres under easement in the county, producing an annual increase of $84,750 over revenues received if the land had simply been enrolled in the Use Value taxation program. Approximately 701 other parcels of land of 50 acres or more exist in the county, representing a total of 87,500 acres, for a potential of over $500,000 in additional state aid. Although Conservation Easements are not appropriate for all landowners, the potential impact on public finance is substantial. To increase the amount of land under easement, the committee recommended the county encourage and facilitate voluntary placement of land under easement and implement a Conservation Easement Purchase program.
