by a group of Rappahannock County landowners who will pledge annual donations of a portion of the taxes they save under the Land Use program, the fund would be supported solely by private contributions. Initially established under the aegis of Headwaters, the fund would provide professional development, incentives and recruitment support to improve the quality of instruction at RCPS. The initiative would also help to continue the work of the Greve Grant at RCPS to realize fullv the power of the Effective Schools model. Although this wall bo a privately funded program requiring no public support, the committee nonetheless requested the personal support of each of the supervisors for the program and for the proposition that county landowners of means should voluntarily contribute to the school system each year as a “cost of staying green."
At the conclusion of a short question-and-answer session, Chairman Charles K. “Pete” Estes commended the committee members, all of whom were present, on having— un-committee-like— produced a tangible result in a short period of time. General applause ensued.
