The proportion of men who are veterans varies markedly by county district.
Only 32 percent of older men in Wakefield are veterans, whereas fully 84 percent of older men in Piedmont district are veterans. In the other three districts, the percentage of older men who are veterans is Hampton, 56 percent; StonewallHawthome, 64 percent and Jackson, 68 percent.
Rappahannock is similar to other counties in the region. For example, the percentage of men age 18 to 64 years who are veterans ranges from 16 percent for Culpeper County to 24 percent for Fauquier County. The percentage of men age 65 years and older who are veterans ranges from 59 percent for Madison County to 67 percent for Culpeper, Fauquier and Warren counties.
For women, those age 18 to 64 years who are veterans varies from 1.2 percent in Page County to 2.4 percent in Warren County. At age 65 years and older, the percentage ranges from 0.4 percent in Warren County to 2.5 percent in, Fauquier County.
