A new sign posted by the Virginia Department of Transportation on Hunters Road on Route 621. has sparked concern over its safety throughout the county, especially with the Rappahannock Fire and Rescue Association.
The sign advises a six-ton weight limit going over the Rush River bridge heading toward Grand View Road where approximately 44 families live.
“I noticed the signs and immediately called the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) because our fire equipment weighs in excess of 18 tons,” said Ann Spieker, Head of Chiefs for Rappahannock Fire and Rescue.
Spieker expressed her concern to VDOT, especially with winter quickly coming and with it the possibility of snow and ice causing the delay to be even longer.
